Summer in the City at Director Park

Another delightful summer has come and gone at Director Park! We’ve seen thousands of Portland locals and eager visitors come together for engaging and community-building activities. Downtown Portland Clean & Safe is thrilled to share our highlights from this wonderful season.

From May through September, Director Park welcomed thousands of visitors for our Summer in the City programming over the summer. Our standalone signature events and weekly programming drew newcomers and regulars alike to Director Park throughout the summer. Here are some of our favorite events of the summer:

  • Ducky Drop
Thousands of rubber duckies rained down into Teachers Fountain on Friday, June 13. Families in attendance watched the drop, and kids collected ducks and played in the splash pad. Special thanks to Hoffman Construction and Star Rentals for all of their help in making the event possible.
  • Piano Push Play Kickoff Concert
Piano. Push. Play. held their kickoff concert on Friday, July 18 in Director Park. The organizers unveiled ten new artist-designed pianos, and local musicians performed alongside audience members.
  • Tango Night in the Park
Every other Monday night from 6-8 PM, beginners and experts alike gathered to dance the tango in the summer sunshine at Director Park. Thank you to Alex Krebs, Argentine Tango expert and owner of local studio Tango Berretin, for his organization and involvement in this beautiful event!
  • Sunday Cartways
This summer, a new, vibrant, open-air market popped up weekly in Director Park. Sunday Cartways hosted an eclectic mix of local vendors offering everything from handmade goods and artisan treats to unique bites and creative finds. We look forward to seeing our local vendors, visitors, and regulars return to the park next summer for more shopping, exploration, and connection!

Thank you to everyone who joined us this summer! We were delighted to host so many wonderful community-led events at Director Park. We’re already looking forward to more unforgettable moments next summer. Until then, stay connected with us for exciting events this holiday season that make Downtown Portland a vibrant and welcoming space for everyone.
