National Night Out, a celebration that happens the first Tuesday of August each year, strengthens the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement to help make our neighborhoods a safe and better place to live. On August 5, Downtown Portland Clean & Safe hosted its annual National Night Out event at Director Park, bringing together community members, police officers, firefighters, and other first responders for an evening focused on building connections and trust.
Executive Director Mark Wells, who served as the lead organizer of the event stated: “We’re in a moment of rebuilding that relationship and that trust with law enforcement throughout the nation and here in Portland as well, and it all starts with getting to know one police officer, one sheriff’s deputy, and getting to build that dialogue again.”
Designed to strengthen community connections, the gathering emphasized safety, collaboration, and accessibility for all. Thank you to everyone who joined us for this important community-building event. We appreciate your support and look forward to hosting National Night Out again next year as we continue fostering the relationships that make downtown Portland a safer, more connected place for everyone.
