If you’ve found yourself in or around Lents Park in Southeast Portland, you may have spotted the crowd, the vendors, international mascot Dillon T. Pickle, or heard of The Portland Pickles baseball team. After being selected by the Portland Business Alliance, The Portland Pickles found the perfect opportunity to connect with Downtown Portland and beyond. “We are excited to utilize this space to bring together lifelong fans and those new to the Pickle-verse,” says Colleen Schroht, Director of Operations. With that, The Pickle Jar was born.
What’s available at The Pickle Jar? Items range from team hats and t-shirts to novelty baseball bats and balls, in addition to tickets to games for the upcoming baseball season. It’s a one-stop-shop! With help from local artists and designers, The Pickles developed new items to reflect the changing seasons. “The Pickle Jar is also a space for limited art releases, comedy shows, and many other events to be announced soon, which will give the community a new event space to hang out and make Portland an even more amazing place to be.”
The last couple of years have been rough on small businesses, to say the least. The Pickles faced many challenges like every other business. However, they were able to persevere through COVID and make it possible for fans to see and experience live sports when most sporting events were closed to the public. “The majority of our merchandise sales moved online, which was a huge opportunity for growth and allowed us to reach a wider audience through social media. Interacting with fans online led to an explosion in our social media growth, helping us find even more Pickle fanatics.”
Whether you attend a live game or stop by the pop-up shop, just know the Portland Pickles aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. Dill with it.
